چکیده

Observing movement evoked by stimulating a single cortical neuron has proven technically impossible - until now. A new study using intracellular stimulation has revealed that the basic unit of cortical output is not necessarily basic.

Neuroplasticity and neuromotor synergies in context of rehabilitation after stroke: a systematic review

Background: Alterations of neuroplasticity and cortical excitability are important pathophysiological factors in stroke. Modulation of the neuroplasticity has been proposed as an underlying mechanism of recovery in different neurological disorders. But it is not still clear how the CNS faces the complexity of muscle control. Neuroplastic processes may be used for the functional improvement of s...

Robust Control of Encoderless Synchronous Reluctance Motor Drives Based on Adaptive Backstepping and Input-Output Feedback Linearization Techniques

In this paper, the design and implementation of adaptive speed controller for a sensorless synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drive system is proposed. A combination of well-known adaptive input-output feedback linearization (AIOFL) and adaptive backstepping (ABS) techniques are used for speed tracking control of SynRM. The AIOFL controller is capable of estimating motor two-axis inductances ...

Ordered motor-unit firing behavior in acute cerebellar stroke.

It is known that at any given force level, the lower-threshold motor units generally fire at greater rates than the higher-threshold units during isometric tasks of extremity muscles. In addition to this hierarchical arrangement, firing rates of motor units fluctuate in unison with nearly no time delay; an observation that has led to the concept of common drive, a basic motoneuronal rule. Altho...

Profiles of Motor Unit Activity Generated by a Recurrent Ann of the Primate Premotoneuronal Circuitry

A dynamic recurrent neural network composed of units with continuous activation functions were derived to simulate motoneuronal activity profiles generating bidirectional wrist movements in the monkey. The model incorporates anatomical connections of premotor neurons, i.e. neurons projecting monosynaptically to spinal motoneurons, including cortical and rubral neurons, muscle afferents and segm...

The motor cortex communicates with the kidney.

We used retrograde transneuronal transport of rabies virus from the rat kidney to identify the areas of the cerebral cortex that are potential sources of central commands for the neural regulation of this organ. Our results indicate that multiple motor and nonmotor areas of the cerebral cortex contain output neurons that indirectly influence kidney function. These cortical areas include the pri...
